Hotel & Resort Tilajari
Our Practices
- We want to provide a smoke-free environment for guests. Therefore, smoking is not permitted in the rooms and suites. If the client smokes, they will be charged $150 to cover the costs of a deep cleaning procedure.
- The housekeeping department has a “Delayed change of towels and sheets” system. This information is available on your table night.
- The printing and writing paper consumed in the hotel is classified and reused as stationary note cubes or delivered to a Recycle Center.
- Part of the organic waste generated on site is processed to compost (natural fertilizer) for the gardens. We donate the rest to pork producers in the area.
- We have a project in process for better wastewater management.
- We conserve the condition of a tropical primary and secondary forest next to the hotel and schedule regular maintenance of the trails.
- We close relationships with local social projects through sponsorships or donations. These projects include a local Children’s Home, Rehabilitation Center, and local schools.
- We use fluorescent bulbs with low energy consumption in most lighting systems.
- Biodegradable products are used for the maintenance of gardens.
- We collect used oils from the hotel´s kitchen and nearby restaurants to produce biodiesel in our small plant. This is used to fuel our lawn movers and company vehicles.
- The local organization responsible for providing portable water regularly runs an analysis to certify drinking water quality for human consumption.
- We have regular training programs for our staff.
- We schedule preventive maintenance of electrical installations and equipment, plus regular checks of pipelines.
- Customers are encouraged to participate in the classification of solid waste by separating their trash into containers for plastic, glass, paper, aluminum, and tetra Brik to deliver to the local Recycling center.
- Our guests can find a Directory of Services in each room to facilitate access to as much information as possible during their stay.
- The gift shop prioritizes selling crafts or items from local producers and has labeled the origin of each product line. Also, it only receives crafts made with legally cut wood. · We have achieved up to a 90% reduction in the use of chlorine and other chemicals. Additionally, cleaning supplies have been replaced by organic or biodegradable products.
- Most of our providers have signed a letter of intent to adopt or improve sustainable business practices.
We avoid the use of disposable tableware. Instead, we use containers made of compostable material. In addition, our trash bags are biodegradable (D2W).
The bottles of water we sell are made of 50% recycled plastic.
As a company, we fulfill all obligations established by Costa Rican Law regarding social security, wages, policies, and other requirements.
The hotel is affiliated with the Code of conduct to prevent the sexual exploitation of children in tourism companies.
You can help too:
- We encourage you to participate in the “the delay in the change of towels and sheets” program. This contributes to water saving and less pollution from detergents, bleach, and energy, among other items.
- Purchase local crafts or products from family or micro rural businesses, etc. Supporting business initiatives in areas with lower human development eliminates the middleman and saves you money.
- Consume water in reusable bottles that you can refill whenever you need. Try to void using single-use packaging.
- Plan your travel routes well, check your vehicle, and drive properly. Respect the traffic signs to achieve fuel savings and your welfare on the road.
- Remember to turn off the lights, air conditioning, and fan when you leave the room. In addition, electrical and electronic devices should be disconnected to avoid unnecessarily consuming energy.
- Visit cultural activities in the area, share recreational activities with the locals and look for tours in new and rare places. We have a board with info available in the restaurant. Experience something different!
- Do not buy, sell or trade any archaeological items, flora, or fauna. We ask you to report any of these illegal activities.
- Get used to carrying a litter bag in your vehicle. Many planes now have containers to separate your garbage and help reuse and recycle. For example, at Tilajari, we have three units of containers to separate your waste.
- Feel free to express your constructive criticism and comments about the places you visit. Companies value their customer's feedback about their products and services. This is an excellent contribution to the culture of customer service being developed in this country.
- Prefer to visit hotels and establishments involved in programs or projects of social assistance and environmental protection such as the Code of Conduct Paniamor, Blue Ecological Flag, or the Sustainable Tourism Certificate. This way, you will be both a customer and a collaborator of such practices.
- Avoid changing the order of nature by subtracting the forest plants and seashells from the beach or feeding wild animals.
As in many countries, you may find a homeless person asking for money in some towns. If you want to help, we invite you not to give them money, but instead, you can offer food or donate cash to a social assistance organization recommended by your hotel or travel agency.
